Dear Parent/Carer,

It’s been a blustery week and the nights are drawing in… the good news is that our new light by the main gates has been installed!  Thank you Mr Carey for arranging this for us.

World Mental Health Day: Monday 10^th October, 2022

Staff and pupils are invited to wear yellow for Mental Health Day on Monday.  As always, we will be raising money for Bronwen’s Wish, a charity very close to our hearts.  Donations can be made on the gate at drop-off.  You may know that Bronwen’s Wish is working to raise money for ‘Wellbeing Pods’ in schools: quiet places for pupils to withdraw to when they need to.  Lakeside is very fortunate to be the first school that will receive one of these pods, and work has already started!  We will keep you updated on its progress.

Shwmae Day: Friday 14^th October, 2022

Pupils and staff get to dress up again on Friday – this time in red, for Shwmae Day.  On this day we celebrate all things Welsh and there will be special activities devised by our Criw Cymraeg pupil group. 

Harvest Festival

Thank you to our Lakeside families for donations that they have already sent in for the Cardiff Food Bank Harvest Appeal.  The food Bank needs: tinned sponge pudding, rice pudding, custard, tomatoes, fish and fruit; long-life fruit juice, chocolate and sweets.  Please send your donations by Wednesday 12^th October.  Thank you.

 

We will celebrate harvest in assemblies on Thursday 13^th October, when Cardiff Food Bank will come to school to collect the donations in their van.

Curriculum information meetings for parents

Following the success of our Reception Reading Meeting, we will be holding curriculum information meetings for all year groups throughout October and November.  In these meetings you can find out what the children are learning about under the new Curriculum for Wales, and also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. 

• Year 1 meeting will be Thursday 20^th October at 2-30 pm
• Year 2 meeting will be Thursday 10^th November at 2-30 pm
