Parentmail October 14th, 2022

Dear Parent/Carer,

We’ve had a VERY busy week at Lakeside – dressing in Yellow on Monday for World Mental Health Day, dressing in red for Shwmae Day on Friday, and celebrating Harvest.   Again, I thank you, Lakeside families, for your amazing generosity.  Over £363 was raised for Bronwen’s Wish on Monday and Cardiff Food Bank were overwhelmed by the amount of donated food they were able to collect on Thursday.  Thank you to the School Council pupils for helping pack the donated items into bags and transport them to the Food Bank car.

Parents’ consultations

Parents’ consultations will take place on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th October.  There will be an option of a face-to-face appointment (Tuesday) or an online appointment (Wednesday).  You will receive an email at 11am on Saturday morning inviting you to book an appointment.  The same information will be shared whether you have booked a face-to-face or a virtual appointment which includes how your child has settled into the new school year, how they are getting on with their learning and how you can support them at home.  There will be opportunities for your child to share their work with you later in the year.

Curriculum information meetings for parents

We have arranged more curriculum information meetings for you to find out what the children are learning about under the new Curriculum for Wales, and also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

  • Year 1 meeting will be Thursday 20th October at 2.30 pm
  • Year 2 meeting will be Thursday 10th November at 2.30 pm
  • Year 3 meeting will be Friday 11th November at 2.45pm
  • Year 5 meeting will be Friday 18th November at 2.45pm

Other year group dates to follow

Can you help?

Part of the new Curriculum for Wales involves connecting with the world of work and our community around us.  If you have skills, talents or an interesting job or hobby that you think would be useful and engaging for the children to hear about, please contact me on mitchellr28@hwbcymru.net.  This could involve talking to a class or assembly (either face-to-face or remotely), or simply being involved in our learning projects.  Our Autumn term Learning Projects are:
